The characters in this book are not simply characters, but fully realized human beings, with all the complexities and contradictions that come with being alive. The book was a time machine, transporting me to another era, another world, and yet, it could also be a mirror, reflecting back my own thoughts and feelings, my own hopes and fears. I gave it 2.5 stars because the stories english more like academic papers than engaging narratives. I was hoping for more emotional depth, but instead, it read like a series of scholarly articles.
